Sacramento, California – Senator Anthony J. Portantino’s (D – La Cañada Flintridge) sensible gun control bills SB 61 and SB 376 have been signed by Governor Newsom. SB 61 would limit the purchase of a center-fire, semi-automatic firearm to one per month.  Additionally, SB 61 would prohibit the sale of these high-powered weapons to anyone under 21.

Sacramento, California – Senator Anthony J. Portantino’s (D – La Cañada Flintridge) post release services referral program bill SB 620 has been signed by Governor Newsom. The bill was suggested and sponsored by the Pasadena Police Department and would allow local law enforcement agencies to share access to helpful information to those under supervised release and help connect them directly with non-profit service providers.

Sacramento, California – Last night, the Glendale Community College Armenian Genocide Commemoration Bill, SB 568, authored by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D–La Cañada Flintridge), was signed by Governor Gavin Newsom. Prior to the passage of SB 568, GCC would have had to forfeit nearly $500,000 if it were to close on April 24th to commemorate the Armenian Genocide.

September 24, 2019 - SACRAMENTO – California Attorney General Xavier Becerra on Monday joined a coalition of 21 attorneys general in urging Congress to enact Jaime’s Law. The law would change federal law to require background checks for ammunition purchases and prevent the purchase of ammunition by prohibited individuals.

Manhattan, New York – State Senator Anthony J. Portantino accompanied Governor Gavin Newsom and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan today as the Governor  and Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between California and Armenia.  Included in the comprehensive MOU is the formal establishment of the first California International Trade Desk in Yerevan.  Senator Portantino is proud to have introduced legislation to establish a California Trade Office in Armenia’s Capital City and to have worked with the Governor’s office on the MOU in preparation of the historic New York meeting between the Prime Minister and the Governor.
