Sacramento, CA – Senate Bill 1100, a measure authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), passed the Senate Floor today. The bill, which is headed to the Governor’s desk, addresses discrimination against inviduals who do not have driver’s licenses and seek employment for a job that does not require driving. Under SB 1100, employers will no longer be able to require a driver’s lincense as a condition of employment.

The measure encourages a more collaborative approach to address truancy and follows significant research that has proven to be successful. The California State PTA and GENup are co-sponsors of SB 691.

Sacramento, California – Senate Bill 607, authored by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), passed both houses of the Legislature. The measure, which is on its way to the Governor’s desk, aims to combat the ongoing opioid crisis by requiring prescribers of controlled substances containing an opioid to discuss the dangers of opioids with all patients.

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bill 53, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), passed both houses of the Legislature and is headed to the Governor for signature. The bill expands on Senator Portantino’s earlier firearm safe storage efforts by expanding storage requirments to thwart suicide, unintentional shootings, and theft in all homes were a firearm is present.
