Sacramento, CA – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) joined the White House this week for the “Safer States” initiative to discuss California’s gun safety policies. The “Safer States Convening” was organized by the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention to discuss gun safety policy accomplishments from the 2024 legislative session and the advancement of the Safer States agenda.

The measure will make higher education more affordable for low income refugees by exempting them from paying the nonresident tuition fee. The Senator was inspired to author the bill when Glendale Community College students raised tuition funds to help students who were displaced from Artsakh by Azerbaijan

Sacramento, California – Senate Bill 607, authored by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), passed the Assembly Business and Professions Committee today. The measure aims to combat the ongoing opioid crisis by requiring prescribers of controlled substances containing an opioid to discuss dangers of opioids with all patients.
