On New Year’s Day, SB 1100 authored by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) became law in California. SB 1100, signed by Governor Brown, raised the purchase age for all firearms in California to 21.
While current law prohibits the purchase of more than one handgun every 30 days, Senate Bill 61 would expand that provision to all firearm purchases across California, including Santa Clarita.
The author, Sen. Anthony Portantino, D-La Cañada Flintridge, reintroduced the bill in hopes newly-elected Gov. Gavin Newsom, who has taken aim at the gun industry, signs it into law, according to officials.
A bill has been reintroduced in the California state legislature that would limit the number of guns Californians can purchase to just one per month. A similar measure was vetoed last year by outgoing Gov. Jerry Brown.
It comes as another Democrat, Gavin Newsom, takes the reins Monday as the state's 40th governor. Newsom took a swipe at the gun lobby and Trump administration in his inaugural address.
