Sacramento, CA – On Thursday, June 22, AB 114, a very important budget trailer bill, passed the State Senate.  Included in AB 114 is a five-year extension of funding for the University of California’s Umbilical Cord Blood Collection Program (UCBCP).  The current funding of this lifesaving cancer treatment effort is set to sunset on January 1, 2018.

The South Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education voted 3 to 1 last week in favor of passing a resolution to support California Senate Bill 328, which would require classes at the middle and high school levels in all but rural districts to start half an hour later. This would mean an 8:30 a.m. start time for South Pasadena middle and high school.

Sacramento, CA – As the Chair of Budget Subcommittee on Education, Senator Anthony J. Portantino is proud to announce that the 2017-2018 budget prioritizes public education, adding nearly $3 billion to fund education in California. This unprecedented increase will raise per pupil spending to over $11,000 per year – the highest amount in California history.

On Thursday, the California Legislature voted on the final budget bill, which included a total of $74.5 billion for education.
