Portantino’s Efforts Yield $5.5 Million for Sound Walls in 2019–2020 State Budget

Sacramento, California — Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D–La Cañada Flintridge) proudly announced today that the State Senate approved the 2019–2020 State Budget. The approved budget includes $5.5 million for sound walls along the 210 freeway in La Cañada Flintridge.  Portantino made the request on behalf of the city.

“I’m ecstatic that Governor Newsom and the Senate Budget Committee responded so positively to this important local project.   For the longest time, our community has wanted to combat noise from the 210 and I’m just happy to be in a position to help that effort,” commented Senator Portantino.

Last year, Senator Portantino was able to secure and negotiate with the California Transportation Commission and Supervisor Barger $12 million for sound walls for La Cañada Flintridge through a combination of SB 1 and Metro dollars.  At Portantino’s request, SB 1 included language to prioritize cities, like La Cañada Flintridge, that have invested in sound wall environmental studies.

“Our city has long struggled to fund adequate resources to complete our sound wall needs.  Through Senator Portantino’s leadership, we were able to secure $12 million last year and with this additional funding, we are moving closer to completing our entire sound wall list.  It makes a difference to have our former Mayor in the State Senate and we are very grateful to Anthony for once again answering our call for help,” concluded Hon. Len Pieroni, La Cañada Flintridge Mayor.
