SACAREMANTO—Senator Anthony J. Portantino on August 9 honored the Homenetmen on its 100th anniversary at the California State Capitol. Leaders and scouts from the Homenetmen were recognized on the floor of the State Senate with a resolution from Portantino who were joined by senators Kevin De León (D- Los Angeles) and Senator Scott Wilk (R-Santa Clarita). Similar recognition was also conducted on the Assembly floor by Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian.

More than half of the youth in the juvenile justice system struggle with substance use disorders, a sad result of policies that incarcerate rather than support young people in trouble with drugs. When my older son was arrested at age 20 for marijuana possession, he was pushed into a criminal pipeline that only made things worse. It was behind bars that he learned to inject heroin.

GLENDALE—The Glendale City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved the Armenian American Museum’s Stage II Design plans and environmental compliance. The Council is scheduled to cast a final vote on the Museum’s Ground Lease Agreement on August 14. The anticipated final approval will mark a historic milestone for the landmark project.

Los Angeles—The Homenetmen Western USA’s Centennial Youth Forum took place June 23, during which activists, government officials, media experts, and venerated politicians gathered together in discussions about how the youth can play their part in serving their communities, both in the diaspora and the homeland.

Portantino recalled how he has been approached numerous times by individuals who expressed they wanted to run for office; however, when asked why, they were unable to answer.
