Sacramento, CA - Senate Bill 870, a measure introduced by Senators Anthony J. Portantino and Scott Wilk, seeks to increases the “age of onset” definition of a developmental disability to twenty-two.  In addition, it expands supportive services and programs for those 18-21 who are developmentally disabled.  SB 870 passed the Senate Human Services Committee.

San Francisco, California – Today, Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) joined San Francisco County Supervisor Ahsha Safai and Gary Payton II of the Golden State Warriors for a rally on the steps of San Francisco City Hall to support universal screening for risk of dyslexia.

Sacramento, CA - Senate Bill 1255, a measure introduced by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) which seeks to reduce waste in K–12 schools and community colleges, passed the Senate Environmental Committee today.  SB 1255 would establish a dishwasher grant program to address the state’s single-use trash and waste crisis.  The idea for the bill was brought to Senator Portantino during by members of the Glendale Environmental Coalition.

Sacramento, CA – Today, Senate Bills 941, 1016, and 1302 authored by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) passed the Senate Education Committee.  SB 941 encourages inter-district collaboration for courses related to STEM and dual language immersion, while SB 1302 would establish or improve wellness and mental health support centers on campus and SB 1016 would enhance special education services.

Sacramento, CA - Senate Bill 1079, a measure introduced by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) to allow cities to monitor noise pollution by using sound activated devices, passed the Senate Transportation Committee today.  Streets for All, a nonprofit organization that advocates for street safety, is a sponsor of the measure.
