Sacramento, CA – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) introduced SB 25 on the first day he assumed office.  This bill requests the Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO) to assess the integration of California’s K–14 schools, examine best practices education models used in Europe, and research expansion of concurrent enrollment programs to help formulate a new and updated education model for the 21st century.

Pasadena, California– On Sunday, March 26, Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) had the privilege of honoring ten exemplary women from Senate District 25 in the courtyard of Pasadena City Hall. The California State Legislature first recognized March as Women’s History Month in 1987 and has continued the tradition. Each year members of the State Legislature recognize the exceptional women in their district with a celebration commemorating their efforts.

Sacramento, CA – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge), Chair of the Senate Select Committee on California, Armenia and Artsakh Mutual Trade, Art and Cultural Exchange, introduced Senate Resolution 29 today designating the month of April for commemoration of the Armenian Genocide.  The Resolution also calls on the Republic of Turkey to return confiscated church properties to their rightful congregations.

Sacramento, CA – Doctors we trust safeguarding our children’s health add their support to Senate Bill 328.  Introduced at the beginning of this year by Senator Portantino, SB 328 seeks to move high school and middle school start times later in the morning.   The American Academy of Pediatrics, California (AAP-CA), representing over 5,000 California pediatricians, strongly supports SB 328, which will require that the school day for middle and high schools start no earlier than 8:30 a.m.

Sacramento, CA – At the request of State Senator Anthony J. Portantino, the California State Senate Rules Committee approved a historic Senate Select Committee on California, Armenia and Artsakh Mutual Trade, Art and Cultural Exchange. The aim of the Committee is to expand business opportunities through trade, economic development, cultural awareness and education between California, Armenia and Artsakh.  Portantino will Chair the committee.
