Senator Portantino Secures $150K for SELAH Neighborhood Homeless Coalition

Sacramento, CA - State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) was proud to announce that his budget request of $150,000 for the SELAH Neighborhood Homeless Coalition was approved in the 2022-2023 State Budget.  The funds will support services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

“I am proud to secure much needed funding for to support those experiencing homelessness,” stated Senator Portantino.  “SELAH does critical work in our communities and understands the unique needs and struggles of individuals and families who are seeking assistance. Mostly importantly, they use empathy as their guiding light. I am happy to be in a position to help.”

SELAH Neighborhood Homeless Coalition is a nonprofit consisting of neighborhood organizers who recognize unhoused individuals as fellow members of our community worthy of the dignity, respect and representation afforded to housed people.  It provides community support through material aid, connection to existing services and policy advocacy.

"SELAH Neighborhood Homeless Coalition is honored to accept this funding allocated by Senator Portantino and the California State Legislature.  SELAH is a neighborhood-level movement that responds to homelessness in a proactive, compassionate, innovative and effective way.  This funding--which originates from California taxpayers--increases SELAH's capacity to build relationships with our unhoused neighbors and support them as they connect with services and housing.  We encourage members of our community who'd like to learn more or consider volunteering with SELAH to visit selahnhc.org," stated Justin Szlasa, Transitional Executive Director, for SELAH.
