Governor Announces Reward for Pasadena Unsolved Tragic Murder of Iran Moreno as a Result of Senator Portantino’s Request

Sacramento, CA – Senator Portantino welcomed news from Governor Newsom today for the availability of a $50,000 reward for information regarding the murder of Iran Moreno, in hope that it will bring to justice the person who committed the murder of the young boy.

“I am pleased that Governor Newsom granted my request to offer a reward for public cooperation and assistance to solve the case of the tragic murder of Pasadena resident Iran Moreno,” stated Senator Portantino. “This tragic incident has caused fear and trauma among our youth and parents knowing that this person is still on the loose. I believe that the greater the incentive, the more encouraging it will be for someone to step forward with information. As a strong advocate for sensible gun legislation, I am in strong support of putting an end to this sort of senseless violence. This child’s life is lost, let’s help this community heal.”

On November 20, 2021, 13-year-old Moreno was killed by a stray bullet that came through his bedroom window in Pasadena. Iran was a young boy dedicated to his schoolwork, a straight A student with a bright future and absolutely no affiliation with any gang activity or members. He was an eighth grader attending Blair Middle School when his innocent life ended from the gun shots fired into his home. Unfortunately, homicide investigators have not made any headway in their investigation, and are relying on the community to help find this murderer. The community has galvanized in creating a monetary incentive for information leading to the arrest and conviction of this individual.

The California Legislature established a crime tip reward program (Penal Code § 1547). The law allows the Governor to offer a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of perpetrators for certain unsolved crimes. A $50,000 reward is currently being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction for the murder of Iran Moreno. The Pasadena Police Department has exhausted all investigative leads and requested that a reward be offered to encourage any individuals with information about this murder to contact Pasadena Police Lieutenant Keith Gomez at 626-744-4517.
