A landmark school start time bill crossed a major hurdle this week, passing out of the California Assembly’s Education Committee with bi-partisan support.

Sacramento, CA – Today, Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) presented SB 328 to the Assembly Education Committee. The Bill requires middle schools and high schools to start the school day no earlier than 8:30 a.m. SB 328 is based on recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics for the optimal time to start school for improved public health of teenage students.

Sacramento, CA — On Monday, Senator Anthony Portantino’s legislation, SCR 25, which will install a sign at the Fair Oaks Avenue exit off Interstate 210 in Pasadena to direct the public to the Pasadena Armenian Genocide Memorial, passed the Assembly Transportation Committee with unanimous support.

Portantino’s legislation, SCR 8, which will name the segment of the CA-134 freeway between the Glendale CA-2 and the Interstate 210 Freeway the “President Barack H. Obama Freeway,” passed the Assembly Transportation Committee with overwhelming support.

Glendale Youth Alliance named Nonprofit of the Year by Sen. Anthony Portantino

State Sen. Anthony Portantino honored the Glendale Youth Alliance (GYA) as the 25th State Senate District Nonprofit of the Year at a special ceremony on June 28 in Sacramento. GYA Board Chair Shant Sahakian and Executive Director Karine Grigoryan were in attendance to accept the honor.
