State Senator Anthony Portantino’s Student Suicide Prevention Bill, SB 972, passed the Senate Education Committee Wednesday with bipartisan support.
Portantino represents the 25th Senate District, which includes Altadena, Pasadena, Sierra Madre, South Pasadena and San Marino.
SB 972 would require public, charter, and private schools to print a suicide prevention hotline number and/or text crisis lines on the back of student’s identification cards. The measure would be required for grades 7 through 12 and all higher education institutions.
