Sacramento, California – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) and Senator Scott Wilk (R – Santa Clarita) announced the decision by the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) to restrict the number of investments and holdings they have in the Republic of Turkey. CalPERS is the largest defined-benefit public pension in the United States.

Los Angeles, California – Today, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 144, authored by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino.  The bill includes a $180 million increase to the current film and television tax incentive program and $150 million for a new incentive tied to the construction of soundstages.  For Portantino, the success of SB 144 is part of his deep commitment and appreciation of the entertainment industry.  Like thousands of present-day Californians, he moved to Los Angeles from New Jersey after graduating from college to pursue a career in the industry.  Senator Portantino worked in production until he transitioned to public service.

Sacramento, California – Senate Bill 144, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Canada Flintridge), passed both houses of the Legislature today.  The bill includes $330 million dollars in film and television production tax incentives in the State Budget.  The tax credit breakdown falls into two categories: a $180 million increase to the current tax incentive program and $150 million for a new incentive tied to the construction of sound stages.

Sacramento, California – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) announced today that the 2021-2022 State Budget includes historic investments to address the state’s ongoing wildfire and drought crisis through the Legislature’s new investments in climate resiliency.  The final budget package was approved this week and incorporates many of the critical investments originally proposed and outlined in Senator Portantino’s SB 45.
