Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge), was approved by the Legislature with bipartisan support and is headed to the Governor’s desk. SB 224 addresses the growing mental health crisis among California’s youth by implementing mental health education in schools.

Sacramento, California – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) released the following statement on Assembly Concurrent Resolution 105 (ACR 105), which recognizes the Armenian Province of Syunik as California’s sister state and was approved today by the Assembly Committee on Jobs, Economic Development and the Economy. ACR 105 was introduced by Assemblymembers Chris Holden and Adrin Nazarian. Senator Portantino is a principal co-author of the measure.

Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) met with leaders of the Armenian American community in the San Francisco Bay Area earlier this week and toured St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Apostolic Church and the Armenian Cultural Center, which was recently the site of an arson attack and hate crimes.

Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) and Senator Scott Wilk (R – Santa Clarita) announced the decision by the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) to restrict the number of investments and holdings they have in the Republic of Turkey. CalPERS is the largest defined-benefit public pension in the United States.

Los Angeles, California – Today, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 144, authored by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino.  The bill includes a $180 million increase to the current film and television tax incentive program and $150 million for a new incentive tied to the construction of soundstages.  For Portantino, the success of SB 144 is part of his deep commitment and appreciation of the entertainment industry.  Like thousands of present-day Californians, he moved to Los Angeles from New Jersey after graduating from college to pursue a career in the industry.  Senator Portantino worked in production until he transitioned to public service.
