The event highlighted the rich cultural heritage of the AAPI community and the achievements and contributions of the community’s leaders in the 25th Senate District.  

Senator Portantino Requests Clarification on Loan-Out Policies for Entertainment Industry Workforce

Sacramento, CA – Earlier today, Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) expressed concern regarding potential policy changes being implemented for loan-out corporations within the entertainment industry. In a letter to the California Employment Development Department (EDD), the Senator asked for clarification in regards to the policy changes and requested that the targeting of loan-out companies be suspended until an explanation was provided.

Senator Portantino, Lawmakers & Arts Advocates Rally for Arts Funding

Sacramento, CA – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), joined advocates and lawmakers today to rally support for the restoration of more than $22 million in proposed cuts to state arts funding. The current budget proposal would implement a $10 million cut to the California Arts Council and eliminate $12.5 million in funding for SB 1116, legislation authored by Senator Portantino which created the performing arts Equitable Payroll Fund.

Senator Portantino’s Opioid Epidemic Bill Passes Senate Floor

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bill 997, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), passed the Senator Floor. The bill helps tackle the opioid epidemic and drug related overdoses among our youth by allowing students to carry both fentanyl test strips and Narcan nasal product while on campus. The bill had its genesis during the Senator’s summer internship program, where interns have the opportunity to research subject areas and propose bill ideas directly to Senator Portantino.
