Senator Anthony Portantino’s SB 972 passed the State Senate Education Committee on March 14 with bipartisan support. It will now go onto the Assembly and Senate for a vote.

“I don’t anticipate any opposition,” he said.

The bill requires public, charter and private schools to print a suicide prevention hotline number and/or text crisis line on the back of students’ identification cards, according to a statement from the senator.

Today, Senator Portantino, D – La Cañada Flintridge, who represents Los Feliz and Atwater Village, among other areas in the 25th Senate District, honored National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day with legislation, SB 1154.

The bill would require the State Dept. of Health Care Services to determine a per capita rate of payment to Medi-Cal recipients with HIV or AIDS.

State Senator Anthony Portantino’s Student Suicide Prevention Bill, SB 972, passed the Senate Education Committee Wednesday with bipartisan support.

Portantino represents the 25th Senate District, which includes Altadena, Pasadena, Sierra Madre, South Pasadena and San Marino.

SB 972 would require public, charter, and private schools to print a suicide prevention hotline number and/or text crisis lines on the back of student’s identification cards. The measure would be required for grades 7 through 12 and all higher education institutions.
