Sacramento, CA – Yesterday, the California State Assembly Transportation Committee voted 12-1-1 to pass SB 400.  SB 400 is a bill authored by State Senator Anthony Portantino, D – La Cañada Flintridge, that requires Caltrans to freeze the rent for the homes located in the 710 corridor.  Decades ago, Caltrans purchased these homes to pave the way for the 710 freeway.  Caltrans is currently in the process of selling the homes.  After hearing concerns from renters in the cor

SACRAMENTO – California Governor Jerry Brown signed the 2017-2018 state budget Tuesday with $3 million earmarked for the Armenian American Museum. The new funding will be dispersed over the next 3 years at $1 million per year. The approval brings the State’s total funding commitment for the Museum to $4 million.

Sacramento, CA – On Thursday, June 22, AB 114, a very important budget trailer bill, passed the State Senate.  Included in AB 114 is a five-year extension of funding for the University of California’s Umbilical Cord Blood Collection Program (UCBCP).  The current funding of this lifesaving cancer treatment effort is set to sunset on January 1, 2018.

The South Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education voted 3 to 1 last week in favor of passing a resolution to support California Senate Bill 328, which would require classes at the middle and high school levels in all but rural districts to start half an hour later. This would mean an 8:30 a.m. start time for South Pasadena middle and high school. The bill was introduced to the state senate in February by 25th District State Senator Anthony Portantino (D-La Canada).
