SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – A California lawmaker wants to tax OxyContin and other prescription opioids to fund rehabilitation services for people addicted to opioids and heroin.

Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge), was given his ceremonial oath of office yesterday by State Controller Betty T. Yee. Approximately 500 community members, elected officials, family and friends attended the swearing in ceremony hosted by Glendale Community College.
