Senator Sasha Renée Pérez secures funding to support programs and services at Altadena Library

SACRAMENTO – Senator Sasha Renée Pérez (D-Pasadena) has secured $300,000 in state funding to help the Altadena Library District maintain its essential community programs and services amid ongoing revenue losses caused by the Eaton Fire. The funding will help stabilize the library’s operations at a time when fire-related property tax disruptions have strained its budget.

This state investment will ensure the library can continue serving residents who rely on its programs, technology access, and community support. Nearly all of the district’s funding comes from property taxes and increased delinquencies and fire-related property tax deferrals resulting from the Eaton Fire have affected its revenue.

The one-time $300,000 funding is contained in the 2026-2027 California State Budget. This funding adds to Senator Pérez’s commitment to the Altadena Library District’s recovery. In last year’s state budget, Senator Pérez helped secure $3.6 million to maintain the library’s vital services for the community as it served as an essential meeting place for people seeking disaster relief assistance, emotional support, Wi-Fi hotspots, and access to information and technology.

“I recognize that the impact of the Eaton Fire extends far beyond the immediate damage to homes and businesses. It has also affected the institutions that hold our community together,” said Senator Sasha Renée Pérez (D-Pasadena). “The Altadena Library is a vital community resource that provides educational opportunities, programs for residents of all ages, access to information, and a welcoming space for people to connect. I am grateful to the Altadena Library District’s leadership, staff, and supporters for their continued commitment to the people of Altadena.”
