Senator Sasha Renée Pérez issues statement reflecting on Eaton Fire anniversary

ALTADENASenator Sasha Renée Pérez (D-Pasadena) has issued the following statement on the Eaton Fire Anniversary:

“On the one-year anniversary of the devastating Eaton Fire, we pause to remember the 19 members of our community who lost their lives - parents, children, friends, and neighbors. We continue to honor them and keep their families in our prayers. Thousands of Altadena residents saw their lives permanently changed on January 7. Our community lost more than their homes and their most prized possessions - they lost the unique and special places that defined the community of Altadena.

“While we see signs of hope, such as families returning home to rebuild, we know that too many are still being left behind due to challenges with insurance and delayed disaster aid. Their stories are a reminder to all government leaders that we must do things differently to deliver an equitable recovery for Altadena.

“Our community is resilient and determined. We will not allow the past year to fade into the background. Instead, we must use what we’ve been through to shape California’s next steps: how we look out for one another, how we rebuild, and how we create a safer future for all.”
