Senator Pérez statement on AB 2624 (Bonta)
“AB 2624 would protect immigration support services providers, their employees, and volunteers from threats and harassment. While Nick Shirley has attempted to rename this bill to be about him, it is not. Multiple acclaimed journalist have noted that AB 2624 would not prevent them from doing the important work of investigating and exposing corruption. Protecting investigative journalism and its ability to expose and end corruption, is critical to a healthy democracy.
"Today, outside the California State Capitol, I encouraged Nick Shirley to focus his work on uncovering real cases of corruption. Current cases of corruption and fraud are real and serious. Nick Shirley has the access and following to expose the Presidential administration’s corruption such as abuse of predictive markets by White House staff, Donald Trump’s profits from his cryptocurrency scheme and his monetization of the Presidency via Truth Social, Donald Trump Jr.’s investments into defense contractors or private immigration contractors record profits after donating to the President’s campaign. Given Nick Shirley’s relationship’s with members of the Presidential administration, he would be well positioned to uncover more corruption the public doesn’t even know about yet."
