Senator Pérez Honors Altadena Girls as District 25 Nonprofit of the Year
SACRAMENTO –Senator Sasha Renée Pérez (D-Pasadena) has selected Altadena Girls as the 2025 California Nonprofit of the Year for Senate District 25. Following the Eaton Fire, Avery Colvert founded Altadena Girls with a mission to support local girls who lost their homes and belongings. The nonprofit sprang into action providing these young fire victims with thousands of bags and suitcases full of clothing, beauty products, electronics, and school supplies through its free pop-up shop.
“I’m so excited to recognize Altadena Girls as my 2025 Nonprofit of the Year,” said Senator Sasha Renée Pérez (D-Pasadena). “As our community felt the devastation of the Eaton Fire, I was so impressed by Avery’s commitment to serving, giving back and inspiring hope for the future. At just 14 years old, Avery is already making a big impact on her community.”
The Altadena Girls is now working to expand their services by creating a permanent place where girls can grow, connect and heal.
“We are so honored to be recognized as a California Nonprofit of the Year,” said Avery Colvert, Founder of Altadena Girls. “Thank you so much to Senator Pérez for this wonderful acknowledgment and all her support. When the fires started, I knew I had to do something, and it is a privilege to build Altadena Girls into a safe and inspiring community for teen girls.”
The California Nonprofit of the Year initiative marks its 10th year of celebrating the critical contributions of nonprofit organizations across California. Each year, state legislators select a nonprofit from their district to be honored throughout the year, including at an annual awards luncheon at the Capitol in May.
CalNonprofits sponsors the program in partnership with the state Senate and Assembly. CalNonprofits, the leading policy voice for California’s nonprofit sector, focuses on advocacy, education, and research to build a more powerful and politically engaged nonprofit network across the state.
