Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I am proud to report that Governor Newsom signed SB 2 [1] and SB 368 [2] this week – two gun safety measures that I authored this year.
SB 2 will implement significant improvements to strengthen California’s concealed gun permit law, commonly called CCWs. The bill was sponsored by Governor Newsom and Attorney General Bonta. We worked collaboratively to craft a response to the Supreme Court ruling that made it easier for citizens to acquire CCW permits. I am grateful to the amazing grassroots activists across California who also worked tirelessly on this needed effort to ensure that Californians are made safer from gun violence.

SB 368 will expand and strengthen firearm ownership prohibition laws and create additional responsibilities for commercial gun stores. It was partly inspired by gun safety activists in Burbank during an anti-gun store opening protest.
I am proud to champion these common sense gun reform policies and believe both of these bills will save lives.
Respectfully,
Anthony J. Portantino
Senator, 25th District
