Portantino and Millennials Join Together in Open Dialogue at First MOD Night
Pasadena, CA – State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) was joined by over 70 constituents at Heidar Baba Restaurant on Thursday evening for his first “Millennial Open Dialogue (MOD).” The fluid conversation was filled with questions and comments that touched on important topics ranging from affordable housing and college loans to homelessness and job creation.
“If you look at the numbers, Millennials are volunteering in civic opportunities more than any generation in history,” commented Portantino. “That is one of the reasons I wanted to make a concentrated effort to connect with them. Although they are civically active that doesn’t necessarily translate to the political arena. It is my hope we can engage them and continue to build on their interests.”
“I’ve called the Senator’s office a couple of times but it occurred to me that the best way to connect with Sen. Portantino about an issue is to talk with him in person and tonight was the perfect opportunity,” commented 23-year-old Glendora resident Tim Hernandez. “By reaching out, I was able to talk with him about an idea I have for a bill. I’m looking forward to attending the next dialogue in November.”
“It was great to listen to the ideas and thoughts of students and young working people. They are generally concerned about their future, quality of life and the fairness of society. And, tonight we drilled down on specifics like transportation and environmental protection. I am looking forward to continuing our conversation at our next Millennial Open Dialogue,” commented Portantino.
