Sacramento, California – Today, SB 7, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D–La Cañada Flintridge), passed the Assembly Transportation Committee. SB 7 will allow the purchase of surplus properties occupied by nonprofits at their current use value and prohibit Caltrans from implementing the tunnel or surface freeway options for the 710 gap closure. The bill is also a potential legislative fix for the state to return surplus freeway stubs back to local cities in the freeway corridor.

SB 7, authored by Pasadena-area Senator Anthony J. Portantino, passed the Assembly Transportation Committee on Monday. If approved by the full legislature, the bill would allow the purchase of surplus properties occupied by nonprofits along the former 710 freeway extension route at their current use value, and would prohibit Caltrans from implementing the tunnel or surface freeway options for the 710 gap closure.

Senate Bill 61, SB 172 and SB 620 all authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D–La Cañada Flintridge) passed the Assembly Public Safety Committee on Wednesday.

SB 61 and SB 172 further establish Senator Portantino’s leadership as one of California’s strongest gun control advocates and enhances public safety across the state.

Commemorating Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day isn’t a priceless event, at least not yet for Glendale Community College.

State Sen. Anthony Portantino (D-La Cañada Flintridge) is trying to change that, however.

Portantino authored Senate Bill 568, which would allow Glendale Community College to observe April 24 without costing the institution in state funding.
