Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) to prioritize pedestrian and cyclist safety, passed the Assembly Transportation Committee.  The bill requires California cities to take concrete steps to reduce traffic collisions and fatalities and has garnered an impressive list of supporters, including Streets For All, ActiveSGV, CalBike, and Streets Are For Everyone.

Sacramento, CA - Senate Bills 906 and 1327 – two gun safety and reform measures - passed the Assembly Appropriations Committee today.  SB 906, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge), prioritizes student and campus safety by promoting safe at-home storage of firearms and robust investigations of imminent violent school threats. SB 1327 is jointly authored by Senate Majority Leader Emeritus Bob Hertzberg (D-Van Nuys).  It creates a new tool for California to combat the rise in gun violence and save lives – a private right of action.  Governor Gavin Newsom is the official sponsor of the legislation.

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bills 1207 and 883 passed the Assembly Health Committee.  SB 1205 is authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) and would improve maternal mental health support by providing women with outreach services, education and access to mental health treatment.  SB 883, jointly authored by Senator Portantino and Senator Roth, extends the sunset date on the Umbilical Cord Blood Collection Program (UCBCP) for an additional five years.
