State Sen. Anthony Portantino, a member of this all Democratic group, said he plans to bring back legislation that limits the purchase of rifles or shotguns to one per month. It was vetoed by former Gov. Jerry Brown last year.

“We are going to send a strong message to the current and future gun owners,” Portantino said. “California may be a western state but it's no longer the wild west.”

Gun rights advocates say the measure is an infringement on Second Amendment rights and does nothing to prevent violence.

California Democrats on Monday outlined a plan to enact new forms of gun control, and they’re hoping Gov. Gavin Newsom will sign firearm restrictions that his predecessor vetoed last year.

Standing alongside former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, who was shot in the head at a 2011 Tuscon event, Democrats in the Legislature called for more gun restrictions.

Pasadena City College on Thursday hosted a campus celebration honoring the 100th birthday of Jackie Robinson, who has stood as a civil rights icon since he broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier in 1947 as the first African American to play in the major leagues.

Some of the other special guests who were at the celebration included Mrs. Delano Robinson, Jackie Robinson’s sister-in-law; Dr. Anthony R. Fellow of the PCC Board of Trustees, and Dominick Correy, who represented Senator Anthony J. Portantino.
