When he introduced legislation that would prohibit Caltrans from building a surface route or tunnel between the I-10 and the I-210 freeways, state Sen. Anthony Portantino (D-La Cañada) said he had one key goal in mind. It was to get the two stubs of the unfinished I-710 freeway out of the state highway system and give them to the cities affected by spillover traffic.

A bill authored by California State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D–La Cañada Flintridge), to reestablish a trade office between California and Armenia, passed the State Senate Business and Professions Committee.

The bill received bi-partisan support and garnered a unanimous vote. Armenian Consul General Armen Baibourtian flew to Sacramento to offer testimony in favor of the proposal.

Two trailblazing Tournament of Roses leaders were honored by the state Legislature on Monday as women of the year.

Sen. Anthony J. Portantino named last year’s Rose Queen Louise Deser Siskel of San Marino as his district’s honoree. The La Cañada Flintridge Democrat said Siskel’s promotion of scientific research, education and inclusion make her a powerful example in the LGBTQ and Jewish communities, to which Siskel belongs.
