The measure encourages a more collaborative approach to address truancy and follows significant research that has proven to be successful. The California State PTA and GENup are co-sponsors of SB 691.

Sacramento, California – Senate Bill 607, authored by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), passed both houses of the Legislature. The measure, which is on its way to the Governor’s desk, aims to combat the ongoing opioid crisis by requiring prescribers of controlled substances containing an opioid to discuss the dangers of opioids with all patients.

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bill 53, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), passed both houses of the Legislature and is headed to the Governor for signature. The bill expands on Senator Portantino’s earlier firearm safe storage efforts by expanding storage requirments to thwart suicide, unintentional shootings, and theft in all homes were a firearm is present.

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bill 971, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), passed the Senate Floor. The measure, which awaits the Governor’s signature, will make higher education more affordable for low income refugees by exempting them from paying nonresident tuition fees. Senator Portantino was inspired to author the bill by Glendale Community College students who raised tuition funds to help students who were displaced from Artsakh by Azerbaijan.
