Glendale, CA – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) and Glendale Police Sergeant Vahe Abramyan were honored last week with Purple Tie Awards on the steps of Glendale City Hall. Both men received recognition for their efforts to advocate on behalf of survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. The award was presented during the Annual Candlelight Vigil and 6th Annual Purple Tie Awards ceremony held by the City of Glendale. The annual event was organized by the Glendale Commission on the Status of Women and the YWCA Glendale and Pasadena.

Pasadena, CA – Last Saturday, Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D-Burbank) partnered with Pasadena City College (PCC) to host a town hall titled "Improving Youth Mental Health & Wellbeing.” The well-attended forum at PCC’S Creveling Lounge explored past and present state-level mental health initiatives and current issues facing youth. Speakers offered insights on identifying warning signs of mental health issues among young people and shared strategies for fostering a supportive environment for those who may be struggling with mental health challenges.

South Pasadena, CA – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) joined Caltrans, Assemblymember Mike Fong, and City of South Pasadena officials on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, for a media briefing to celebrate the successful acquisition and upcoming sale of five historic unoccupied Caltrans-owned properties. Previously slated for demolition as part of the 710 Freeway extension project, the properties will now be sold at fair market value. Senator Portantino personally negotiated the end of the 710 freeway tunnel, authored SB 381, and co-authored AB 1038.

Sacramento, CA – Last week, Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) attended the Claremont High School football game at the invitation of Christopher Clark, a senior and team manager for the Wolfpack. Earlier this year, Clark visited the State Capitol, where he participated in the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) Administrators of California Legislative Sharing Day. During his visit, he engaged with state representatives and shared insights about his role as team manager of the varsity football team at CHS.

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bills 1147, 1100, 607, and 551, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), have been signed into law. SB 1147 requires the study of the health impacts of microplastics in drinking water. SB 1100 addresses discrimination against individuals who do not have driver’s licenses, and SB 607 is aimed at combatting the opioid crisis by requiring prescribers of controlled substances containing an opioid to discuss dangers of opioids with all patients. Finally, SB 551 addresses reporting practices across plastic beverage manufacturing companies’ product lines.
