Pasadena Star-News: What state lawmakers had to say about Tournament of Roses women

Two trailblazing Tournament of Roses leaders were honored by the state Legislature on Monday as women of the year.

Sen. Anthony J. Portantino named last year’s Rose Queen Louise Deser Siskel of San Marino as his district’s honoree. The La Cañada Flintridge Democrat said Siskel’s promotion of scientific research, education and inclusion make her a powerful example in the LGBTQ and Jewish communities, to which Siskel belongs.

“She embraced the responsibility of being selected Rose Queen with a bold civic agenda, impressed everyone who has encountered her during this past year and exemplified intelligence, confidence and maturity,” Portantino said in a statement.
