Burbank, California – On Tuesday, California State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (La Cañada Flintridge) hosted the annual Women in Business - Legislative Update & Awards Luncheon at The Castaway in Burbank, California. The popular recognition event was attended by over 400 guests.  Former White House Press Secretary Dee Dee Myers gave an inspirational keynote address, Canter Ruth Berman-Harris ended the day with a poignant song of peace to honor the victims of tragedies locally and around the county. Guests were treated to a musical welcome performed by the Wilson Middle School Lion Heads Jazz

“It was my privilege and honor to recognize accomplished women of the great 25th Senate District. I applaud all of these inspiring women who have achieved success and paved the way for many other entrepreneurs, non-profit executives and community volunteers to follow.  The leadership and accomplishments of this year’s honorees is an example for all of us to emulate.  As the father of two daughters, the people and the day left me in awe,” commented Senator Portantino.

The event celebrated women across generations as it began with an all-female Color guard. The Presentation of Colors was conducted by the Crescenta Valley High School Air Force JROTC, Major Sharon Sim, Captain Rebecca Park, 2nd Lieutenant Bonnie Kim and Ezra Ju. Senator Portantino gave a legislative update on past and upcoming legislation.  Following the inspirational keynote speech by Ms. Myers, who now serves as the Executive Vice President of Warner Brothers Entertainment, Senator Portantino presented awards to laudable women who live or work in the 25th Senate District.

The main objective of the event was to celebrate exceptional women whose professional skills and commitment to their community have made them outstanding leaders and role models. The careers of the honorees varied across the spectrum of professions, including science and technology, corporate and small business, environmental protection, and non-profit organizations.
