California Film Industry Tax Credit Extension Passes Finance Committee

Sacramento, California – Today, SB 832 authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) and joint authored by Senator Kevin de Leon (D-Los Angeles) and other members of the Senate passed the Senate Governance and Finance Committee. The bill proposes to extend and improve the current California Film and Television Tax Credit Program. This will enhance California’s successful entertainment business which brings thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in economic growth across California. 

“California is the entertainment capital of the world. It is the home of studios and talented craftspeople that have created the most significant film entertainment industry in history. The Legislature needs to do everything it can to keep California’s residents working in this business and help the growth of our Golden State,” commented Senator Portantino.

SB 832 also provides additional entryways to those seeking to enter the film business. A Career Pathways Program will help equip individuals from local underserved communities with technical skills and job opportunities. 

SB 832 is supported by 21st Century Fox; California Chamber of Commerce, California Travel Association, NBC Universal, City of Santa Monica, Motion Picture Association of America, Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists,  Teamsters, Warner Brothers Entertainment, and the Walt Disney Company.
