Senator Anthony Portantino Holds Student Mural Contest for District Conference Room
Glendale, California -Today, Senator Anthony J. Portantino announced that he is holding a mural contest for his Glendale District Office. Senator Portantino drew inspiration for the contest from the mural inside the Burbank City Council chambers. The contest is open to all public and private high school art classes from the 25th District. Student teams are encouraged to submit their designs for the mural that will be showcased in his conference room. The senator’s staff will select the winning submission. Student Artists will paint the mural over the summer break. Senator Portantino is a long-time supporter of public education and the arts and sees this idea as a supporting both.
“I wanted to blend my support for education and for the arts and I thought a lasting art contest would be a perfect way to showcase the talented students in my district. Having visited many of the high school art classes in the district, I am confident we will have a difficult time selecting the winning school,” commented Portantino.
The theme of the mural will be “California Dreamin’: Hopes, Dreams, and Diversity Across the 25th Senate District.” The Mural size / dimension of the wall is 175” by 105”. Art classes are encouraged to set up appointments to visit the conference room. District office hours are 9-5 Monday to Friday. The winner will be announced at the end of March. The submission deadline is March 15th.
Submit all designs to Senator.Portantino@senate.ca.gov or in person. Deadline is on Thursday, March 15, 2018. See attached flyer.
