Sacramento, California – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) was named the 2022 Policymaker of the Year by the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities (AICCU).   Senator Portantino received the honor during AICCU’s Annual Meeting.  He was recognized for his dedication and leadership to ensure that California’s diverse student population has access to affordable higher education.

Glendale, CA – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) recently met with well-known journalist and travel blogger Alexander Lapshin, who was extradited by Azerbaijan, sent to prison and tortured by the Azeri government for visiting Artsakh.   Glendale Mayor Ardy Kassakhian joined the Senator for the meeting.

Glendale, CA – State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) met with Artsakh Foreign Minister Davit Babayan. The delegation also included Lernik Hovhannisyan, Artsakh Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, and Robert Avetisyan, Artsakh Permanent Representative to the United States and Canada.  Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian, Glendale Mayor Ardy Kassakhian, and representatives of the ANCA-WR were also in attendance.

Sacramento, CA - Senate Bill 1116, a measure introduced by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) which seeks to create a payroll fund to support small nonprofit performing arts venues (SNPAOs), was signed into law today by Governor Newsom.  The effort comes at a time when small community theatres are struggling in the aftermath of the pandemic.

Sacramento, CA - Senate Bill 932, authored by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) to prioritize pedestrian and cyclist safety, was signed into law by Governor Newsom.  The bill requires all California cities to take concrete steps to reduce traffic collisions and fatalities and has garnered an impressive list of supporters, including Streets For All, ActiveSGV, CalBike, and Streets Are For Everyone.
