Sacramento, California Today Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) introduced Senate Bill 234, a measure that addresses the rise in opioid-related deaths by making opioid antagonists such as Narcan readily available in schools and venues accessed by high-risk age groups. Senator Thomas J. Umberg (D-Santa Ana) is a joint author of SB 234.

The Senator received the award during the Legislative Dean’s List Celebration in Sacramento.

Duarte, CA – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) was honored with the Legislative Hero of Hope Award for authoring Senate Bill 987, a life-saving bill signed by Governor Newsom last year that ensures a more equitable model of health care for cancer patients. SB 987 addresses significant disparities in cancer patient access by expanding Medi-Cal patient eligibility for necessary clinical expertise and resources. The Senator received the award during a ceremony today at City of Hope in Duarte.

Sacramento, California Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) introduced Senate Bill 98 today, a measure that would increase funding for K-12 schools by $3.4 billion. A prudent reform bill, SB 98 bases school funding on enrollment rather than attendance and is similar to SB 830, which Senator Portantino had introduced last year.  SB 830 received support from State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, the Los Angeles Unified School District, the California School Employees Association, and many other school institutions.
