Sacramento, CA - Senate Bill 932, a measure introduced by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) and backed by bike enthusiasts across the state to prioritize pedestrian and cyclist safety, passed the Senate Governance and Finance Committee today.  The bill requires California cities to take concrete steps to reduce traffic collisions and fatalities and has garnered an impressive list of supporters, including Streets For All, ActiveSGV, CalBike, and Streets Are For Everyone.  Recent data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration documenting a nearly 20% increase in traffic fatalities in the first six months of 2021 highlights the need for the bill.

Sacramento, CA – Senator Portantino welcomed news from Governor Newsom today for the availability of a $50,000 reward for information regarding the murder of Iran Moreno, in hope that it will bring to justice the person who committed the murder of the young boy.

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bill 851, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge), passed the Senate Education Committee. The measure strengthens and expands financial support for low-income college students who choose to attend independent, nonprofit California colleges and universities.

Sacramento, CA - State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) joined Senator Tom Umberg to announce the introduction of Senate Bill 986, a measure that combats catalytic converter theft by requiring dealers to apply a vehicle identification number (VIN) to the catalytic converter of each vehicle listed for sale.  Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón and LAPD Chief Michel Moore joined Senators Portantino and Umberg today during a press conference to announce the bill.
