Sacramento, California – SB 1116, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), passed the Senate Labor, Public Employment and Retirement Committee today.  The bill seeks to provide unemployment insurance benefits to striking workers. It is sponsored by the California Labor Federation and is jointly authored by Senator Maria Elena Durazo. Earlier today, Senator Portantino joined California Labor Federation AFL-CIO Leader Lorena Gonzalez, Senator Durazo, and union leaders and workers for a press conference to highlight the importance of unemployment insurance for striking workers.

Sacramento, CA – SB 1160, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) passed the Senate Public Safety Committee today. The measure aims to increase public safety by holding accountable individuals who illegally carry unregistered handguns in California. SB 1160 expands on AB 144, a bill Senator Portantino authored in 2011 in the State Assembly.

Sacramento, CA – This week, California Arts Advocates and California for the Arts honored Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) with the 2024 Legislative Art Star Award. The award was presented to the Senator in Sacramento in recognition of his leadership on SB 1116, the Equitable Payroll Fund and for being a long time champion of the arts community.
