Sacramento, CA – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) introduced legislation today that addresses a significant flaw in women’s healthcare insurance coverage.  SB 257 fixes a delay and absence of live-saving early detection diagnosis by expanding health care coverage for breast imaging following an abnormal mammography.

Senator Portantino Introduces Bill Aimed at Reducing Opioid-Related Overdose Deaths

Portantino (D – Burbank) introduced Senate Bill 234, a measure that addresses the rise in opioid-related deaths by making opioid antagonists such as Narcan readily available in schools and venues accessed by high-risk age groups. Senator Thomas J. Umberg (D-Santa Ana) is a joint author of SB 234.

The Senator received the award during the Legislative Dean’s List Celebration in Sacramento.

Senator Portantino Honored with Legislative Hero of Hope Award for Leadership on Cancer Treatment Equity Bill

Duarte, CA – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) was honored with the Legislative Hero of Hope Award for authoring Senate Bill 987, a life-saving bill signed by Governor Newsom last year that ensures a more equitable model of health care for cancer patients. SB 987 addresses significant disparities in cancer patient access by expanding Medi-Cal patient eligibility for necessary clinical expertise and resources. The Senator received the award during a ceremony today at City of Hope in Duarte.
