Sacramento, California – Senate Bill 538, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), passed the Assembly Transportation Committee. The measure would support safer transportation options for Californians by requiring the Department of Transportation to appoint an advisor on issues specifically related to bicycle issues and safety.

Sacramento, California – Senate Bills 445, 596, 234, and 765, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), passed the Assembly Education Committee today. SB 445 address language barriers in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process by requiring that schools provide a translated IEP within 30 days, while SB 596 addresses the issue of school employees facing harassment and threats for doing their jobs. SB 234 makes opioid antagonists such as Narcan readily available in schools and other places accessed by high-risk age groups. SB 765 offers long-term comprehensive solutions to the current teacher shortage crisis by making it easier for retired teachers to return to the classroom and provides financial incentives for new, prospective teachers.

Sacramento, California – Senate Bill 805, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), seeks to address a serious lapse in the type of autism treatment covered by insurance. The bill passed the Assembly Health Committee. SB 805 will expand care options and modernize workforce positions to provide better care options for parents. The current system of care for individuals with autism includes essentially only one treatment option.

Sacramento, CA – Senate 257, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) addresses a significant flaw in women’s healthcare insurance coverage.  The bill mandates that follow up diagnostic imaging following an abnormal mammography is covered by insurance. SB 257 passed the Assembly Health Committee.

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bills 2 and 368, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), passed the Assembly Public Safety Committee today. SB 2, sponsored by Governor Newsom and Attorney General Bonta, would implement significant improvements to California’s existing concealed-carry weapon (CCW) laws. SB 368 is a common sense and comprehensive gun safety effort that would expand and strengthen firearm ownership prohibition laws and create additional responsibilities for commercial gun stores.
