Sacramento, CA – Senate Bill 368, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), was signed into law by Governor Newsom. SB 368 is a commonsense gun safety effort that would expand and strengthen firearm ownership prohibition laws and create additional responsibilities for commercial gun stores. It was partly inspired by gun safety activists in Burbank during an anti-gun store opening protest.

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bill 2, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), was signed today by Governor Newsom. The law implements significant improvements to strengthen California’s concealed gun permit law, commonly called CCWs. SB 2 is sponsored by Governor Newsom and Attorney General Bonta. Both worked collaboratively with the Senator to craft California’s response to the recent Supreme Court ruling that made it easier for citizens to acquire CCW permits.

Sacramento, CA - Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) announced that Governor Newsom has signed legislation that helps support small nonprofit performing arts venues, commonly known as community theaters. Budget bill SB 104 included $11.5 million to fund a program set up last year in SB 1116, a bill authored by Senator Portantino that established the Equitable Payroll Fund (EPF) to support live theatre. This effort comes at a time when many small community theatres are struggling in the aftermath of the pandemic and far too many are closing.
