Sacramento, California- Following Saturday’s successful meeting and review of the Armenian American Museum by his policy director, Governor Gavin Newsom has included $5 million dollars for the Armenian American Museum in his May revise 2019-2020 budget. Sacramento, California – Today, SB 521, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D–La Cañada Flintridge), passed the Senate Governance and Finance Committee. SB 521 provides a tax credit to property owners who enter into new contracts to rent their property to Section 8 voucher recipients. To be eligible, contracts must be executed after January 1, 2020.  SB 521 is an attempt by Glendale and Portantino to incentivize apartment owners to take in more Section 8 subsidized affordable housing.

Sacramento, California – Today, SB 349 passed the Senate Governance & Finance Committee. SB 349 authored by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D–La Cañada Flintridge) and co-authored by Assemblymember James Ramos (D- Highland) modifies the minimum franchise tax on small businesses and creates a tax structure to encourage entrepreneurship in California.

State Sen. Anthony Portantino (D-La Cañada Flintridge) said his passion for spreading the word of the Armenian Genocide comes from his childhood, when his Italian immigrant mother told the horrors of the orphaned Armenian children.

“While survivors suffered with trauma, they shared with the world the inhumane crimes they witnessed and endured,” Portantino said. “I feel connected to those stories.”
