Claire Bogaard

Claire Bogaard is best known as one of the founding members of Pasadena Heritage, a community based historic preservation organization. She served as its Executive Director until 1993 and has continued with a close involvement and support of the organization.

Pasadena Heritage offers architectural tours and nominates buildings to the National Register of Historic Place.  The organization works in cooperation with the City of Pasadena and neighborhoods to create urban design plans for historic commercial districts and residential neighborhoods, and to resolve zoning controversies. Pasadena Heritage is recognized for its successful efforts to preserve and rehabilitate Old Pasadena, an 11-block area of commercial structures in the central city.  Claire has worked continuously to oppose the completion of the 710 Freeway and to support reasonable and sensible transportation alternatives.

During the 1980s and 90s, Claire participated as an Advisor for the National Trust for Historic Preservation and served on the California State Historical Commission. She has also served on the City’s Planning Commission and numerous Advisory Committees in the City of Pasadena.
