Angela Aguirre, "Angie"

Angela Aguirre is a Chicana Feminist poet who enjoys utilizing her creativity in meaningful ways. She is a graduate of CSLA and has a BA in Communication Studies with an emphasis in Rhetoric and Social Change. She was born and raised in Pasadena, California.

Angela works for the City of Pasadena Human Services and Recreation Department as the site coordinator of La Pintoresca Teen Education Center. She is a staffer, a mentor and a friend to her teens. She plans events, coordinates programming, and teaches poetry and filmmaking class.

She is a poet and has authored, Confessions of a Firework, dedicating it to her students which was published in 2016 by the World Stage Press. Her work has been featured by The Huffington Post, Latina Magazine, and All Def Digital. As a teaching artist, she has taught poetry workshops at dozens of high schools, universities, and organizations such as Inside Out Writers, Homeboy Industries, and The Harold Robinson Foundation. Angela considers herself an activist and youth advocate and never misses an opportunity to give back to the community. She has been performing for the last 7 years, and has been a speaker at a number of large events; such as the Adelante Mujer Latina Conference and the YWCA Women for Racial Justice Breakfast.

Angela is the co-founder of the Latina Feminist poetry collective Chingona Fire which creates events for women of color in Los Angeles. Chingona Fire has started a movement in the community that fosters female empowerment, sisterhood, and solidarity among all women and it has gained quite an online and in person following. Their events are well attended, a testament to their value in the community they serve. In January, Angela was asked to be an ongoing contributor to the HuffPost Latino Voices blog, a tribute to her and an excellent recognition of her work!
