Glendale, California –  This morning, Senate President Pro Tempore Kevin de León announced standing committee chairs and committee assignments for the upcoming legislative session.  Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D - La Cañada Flintridge) has been selected to serve as Chair of Budget and Fiscal Review Subcommittee No. 1 on Education.

"I am very excited to have been selected to chair the education budget subcommittee.  The 25th Senate District values education above all other issues, is home to terrific community colleges and thriving school districts.  This committee assignment allows me to focus on my top policy agenda and puts me in a strong position to serve my district," commented Portantino.

In addition, Portantino was tapped to serve on several other influential committees:  Banking and Finance, Budget and Fiscal Review, Governmental Organization, Insurance and Public Employment and Retirement. Committee Membership will be adopted by the Senate Rules Committee on January 11, 2017.

Over the course of the two year legislative session, Portantino will endeavor to influence the

legislative focus to improve education through the expansion of K-14 educational opportunity, economic growth,  job creation and protecting the progress California has made in the last decade on environmental protection and energy policy.

"It was an honor to have been elected to serve the 25th District and I am very pleased and

honored that Pro Tem de León has trusted me with these assignments.  I'm eager to head back to Sacramento on January 4th, roll up my sleeves and make a difference," concluded Portantino.
