Sacramento, California – Senate Bill 786, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), passed the Senate Floor today and is headed to the Governor’s desk. SB 786 permits health care providers and pharmacies to continue to provide high quality affordable care, low cost drugs, and services to low income and uninsured patients. It ensures that health care providers benefit fully from the purchase of discounted drugs and can use those savings to improve access to care and lower prescriptions at their facilities.

Sacramento, CA – Today, Senate Bill 799, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), passed the Assembly Insurance Committee. The bill seeks to provide unemployment insurance (UI) for striking workers. The bill is sponsored by the California Labor Federation and is jointly authored by Assemblymember Chris Holden and Senator Maria Elena Durazo.

Sacramento, CA – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) was honored with the Trailblazer Award by the Alliance for Fertility Preservation for his longtime dedication to fertility preservation for cancer patients and for authoring and passing Senate Bill 600. As an Assemblymember, Senator Portantino introduced the first bill in the country to require insurers to cover the cost of fertility preservation for patients facing chemotherapy and radiation treatment. While helping to support the national effort at the time, he remained committed to the cause, and eventually championed the bill when he joined the Senate.
