Sacramento, California – Today, the Senate Public Safety Committee passed SB 1100 authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino, D – La Cañada Flintridge.  SB 1100 prohibits a person from making more than one firearm purchase within a 30-day period in California and increases the age requirement for purchasing all firearms to 21 years.

Sacramento, California – Today, Senator Anthony J. Portantino, D- La Cañada Flintridge, invited Dr. Anthony Culpepper to testify before the State Senate Budget Sub-Committee on Education. Dr. Culpepper is the Executive Vice President of Glendale Community College. Senator Portantino Chairs the Senate Sub-Committee on Education. Dr. Culpepper shared his and GCC’s thoughts and concerns on Governor Brown’s proposals for online community college in California.

Sacramento, California- Today, the Senate Education Committee unanimously passed SB 1243 with bi-partisan support. The legislation is authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino, D- La Cañada Flintridge, and sponsored by IBM. SB 1243 proposes a unique early college/high school technology pathway program which is known as P-TECH.

Sacramento, California – On March 20, 2018, Senator Portantino, D – La Cañada Flintridge, directed a letter to the Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District urging them to not support the Cadiz Water Project. Senator Portantino believes that the district should not invest in an environmentally insensitive groundwater mining project.

Sacramento, California – Today, Senator Portantino, D – La Cañada Flintridge, honors National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day with legislation, SB 1154. The bill would require the State Department of Health Care Services to determine a per capita rate of payment to Medi-Cal recipients with HIV or AIDS.
