Senator Portantino’s Arroyo Seco Tributary Legislation Passes Important Committee

Tuesday, April 17 2018

Sacramento, California – Yesterday, the Senate Natural Resources & Water Committee passed SB 1126, the Arroyo Seco Tributary Legislation. The bill is now headed to the Senate Floor for a vote. SB 1126 is authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino, D – La Cañada Flintridge, and purposes to include the Arroyo Seco Tributary in the Upper Los Angeles River and Tributaries Working Group plan.

“I am glad that this bill is moving forward and the voices of my constituents are being heard. I understand how important the Arroyo Seco Tributary is to the greater Los Angeles watershed. This issue is not only important to our district but to the environmental well-being of the region,” commented Senator Portantino.

The Arroyo Seco Tributary was initially a connecting link between the San Gabriel Mountains and the Los Angeles River. Last year, legislation was created for the Upper Los Angeles River and Tributaries Working Group which developed a revitalization plan that excluded the Arroyo Seco Tributary. Under this legislation, the Arroyo Seco Tributary will be added to the working group and plan. Tim Brick and other local activists have given their input and support for this bill. SB 1126 is an urgency bill and will become law immediately upon the Governor’s signature.
