Sacramento, California Senate Bills 234, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), passed the Senate Health Committee. The measure addresses the rise in opioid-related deaths by making opioid antagonists such as Narcan readily available in schools and other places accessed by high-risk age groups. Senator Thomas J. Umberg (D-Santa Ana) is a joint-author of SB 234.

SB 596 addresses the issue of teachers facing harassment and aims to provide a safe and inclusive environment for all students and teachers. SB 671 addresses comprehensive school safety plans.

Sacramento, California – Senate Bill 357, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) was approved by the Senate Transportation Committee.  The bill gives doctors the discretion to report personal conditions they believe will impair a patient’s ability to drive.  It further removes language that discriminates against specific conditions, including epilepsy.

Portantino (D – Burbank) which addresses a significant flaw in women’s healthcare insurance coverage, passed the Senate Health Committee today. SB 257 mandates that follow up diagnostic imaging after an abnormal mammography is covered by insurance.

SB 691 is aimed at improving literacy outcomes by requiring early identification and intervention for students who are at risk for dyslexia. SB 323 addresses the need for emergency safety procedures for IEP (individualized education programs) students.
